The Student Alumni Association (SAA) is holding a blood drive. If you are not familiar, the blood drive happens every year where students and the community take part in helping save lives. The SAA is looking forward to signing up as many volunteers as possible.

Did you know that a single unit of blood can save up to three lives? Statistics show that 44,000 blood donations are needed on a daily basis. Most uses for blood are needed for blood transfusions. Some people also donate blood for the sake of saving someone else's life.

In the United States, all blood centers follow standard procedures to ensure that the person who is donating blood is safe as well as protecting the blood supply. Upon collecting blood, the donator is asked a series of questions about their blood for safety procedures. Due to some medications and/or treatments, some people may not be able to donate blood.

Sterile equipment is always used to collect blood. Once the needle is removed from your vein it will be properly disposed of and never used again, so there is no need to worry about possible infections.

Did you know that reactions from donating blood is rare? If you are healthy you can donate up to a pint of blood without causing any major harm to your body because one unit is a small part of your overall blood volume. Your body and bone marrow can usually replace blood cells within 4-6 weeks.

So come out and help save a life!
